· Chapter One: sketchbook or journal for drawing; drawing pencil; eraser.

· Chapter Two: Sketchbook or journal; drawing pencil; eraser

· Chapter Three:
Exercise 1 (pear): fine marker; 1/4 yard fusible web; 1/8 yard or large scraps of 6 fabrics (highlight, light medium, dark medium, dark, stem and shadow); scissors; pins, background fabric (approximately 11" x 14")

Exercise 2 (page 33) (original drawing): original photo; tracing paper; sketchbook; drawing pencil and eraser; fine marker; fusible web

*note: it is unlikely that students will get beyond the drawing/pattern making stage of this exercise, so the following supplies will be used at home and not in class, Exercise 1: coordinating threads; stabilizer; optional border fabric; batting. Exercise 2: fabrics to match elements of the photo; iron; scissors; background fabric at least 6" larger than subject; stabilizer; coordinating threads; optional border fabric

· Chapter Four:
Color Collage exercise (page 39): three pieces of pre-fused fabric about 6" x 6"; scissors; 9" x 12" background fabric

Collage with a Focus exercise (page 39): photo transferred to fabric or image cut from novelty fabric; fusible web; scraps of pre-fused coordinating or contrasting fabric buttons; charms; found objects or other embellishments; scissors.

· Chapter Five:
Sewing machine;
Freehand Curves exercise (page 43): 2 squares of fabric 9" x 9"; rotary cutter and mat; pencil to contrast with fabric; and fine pins

Wonky Piecing exercise (page 44): fabric for center, 5 1/2" x 5 1/2"; rotary cutter, mat and ruler; 2 strips 2" wide of each of 3-4 different fabrics

Insert Strips exercise (pages 45-46): 2 background fabrics, 10" x 10"; 1" strips of accent fabrics

· Chapter Six:
Abstract Painting exercise (page 51): prewashed white or colored fabric; acrylic or fabric paints; wide flat or round brushes

Representational Painting exercise (page 51): prewashed white or light colored fabric; fabric or acrylic paints; small flat and round brushes; pencil

Stamping exercise (page 52): prewashed fabric; small foam brushes

Foiling with glue exercise (page 53): fabric; pressing cloth; Foiling with Fusible exercise (page 54): fusible web; fabric; appliqué pressing sheet or parchment paper; pressing cloth; iron

$1 kit fee, payable to instructor on the day of class for the foiling supplies.

· Chapter Seven:
Sewing Machine

Thread Painting exercise (page 60): machine embroidery hoop; background fabric (at least 5" larger than hoop); drawing pencil; light box (optional); various colors of rayon and cotton threads; 75/11 embroidery needle; sewing machine with free-motion/darning foot

Bobbin Drawing exercise (page 61): paper; pencil; heavy decorative thread; coordinating 40 or 50 weight cotton or rayon thread; 9" x 12" fabric sandwich; 75/11 quilting needle; sewing machine with free-motion/darning foot (or walking foot for straight lines) small screwdriver; zip close bag

Couching exercise (page 62): 9" x 12" background fabric; stabilizer; sewing machine with couching foot or open-toe embroidery foot; heavy decorative thread, yarn or ribbon; 40 or 50 weight cotton or rayon thread; 75/11 embroidery or universal needle; small scissors

· Chapter Eight:
