Adventures in Dollmaking Club
The Adventures in Dollmaking Club is an informal gathering of likeminded people wanting to have fun and talk about dolls. We discuss the ins and outs of construction, clothing and embellishment techniques. We share ideas and insights along the way, while spending some time working on projects - much like a sit and stitch/show and tell with dolls as the topic. This club is a fun, relaxing adventure into cloth dolls. Meetings are second Wednesdays, 6-8PM.
Upcoming schedule:
July: Needle sculpting a face review.
Each member should bring:
Two stuffed doll heads
Several doll sculpting needle, one should be long
Heavy thread that matches fabric
Ball pins
Face painting supplies if desired
August: Hands...we are going to practice making hands, including turning and wiring fingers. Please bring several pre-sewn doll hands made of different fabrics. The more fabric choices you bring the more practice you will get and the better you can compare the results. Also bring Grip glue (if you have it), pipe cleaners/chenille stems, hemostats and tiny turning tubes.
September: Painting & Drawing faces. This is another practice session. Please bring at least two sewn and stuffed heads to practice painting. If you attended July's meeting, you can bring the heads you needle sculpted if you'd like. Also bring your preferred painting/drawing supplies. This may include gel pens, colored pencils, markers, pastels...whatever you like.
October: Bring a FALL theme project to work on during our meeting.
November: Let's make our own fabric. Bring a base fabric, this can be either muslin or a fabric you want to change. Also bring scrap fabrics ribbons, fibers, beads, sheer fabrics, tulle etc. You may also want to bring Wonder Under or some other type of heat bondable fabric. You can also bring your sewing machine if you'd like, or you can assemble the fabric and sew it at home later.
December: Holiday Party. Please bring a food or drink item to share with the group. We also like to do a gift exchange. If you would like to be a part of the gift exchange wrap a (sewing related, or hand made) gift to exchange. Try to keep the gift around $10 or so.
