Designing Dolls Around a Theme Dates: Description: In this class our focus will not be on how to construct a doll, but rather on how to expand what you know. We will use a simple pattern, either one you have previously made or one provided by the instructor. Each person will focus on a theme they would like their doll to convey. That might be a certain person, a season, a place, a poem - really, the ideas are endless. It is my experience that doll makers have many tricks up their sleeves and this class will encourage you to pull out all of your tricks and try incorporating them into your piece. We will spend some time brainstorming, learning some easy sketchbook techniques (don't worry, drawing skills not required) discovering some new and easy ways to embellish your fabrics and working out the best ways to make the doll convey the idea you have chosen. Of course, after that doll making will commence. Nothing is written in stone in this course and if in the middle of trying something you thought was brilliant turns out not to be, don't worry, you can try something else. This will be a supportive environment in which to try new things, make mistakes and really get your hands and mind around the design process.
