Atkinson Retreat

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010 by Joyce

I’m in Augusta, Wisconsin, with 18(?) other shop owners at a shop owners’ retreat being led by Terry Atkinson of Atkinson Designs. We’re learning a lot *and* having fun! So I thought I’d share a few pictures. These are from the table setting from dinner our first night:

Yesterday we worked on testing a new pattern of Terry’s to be released this fall.  Here’s a few of my blocks:

Here’s one by my friend Cathy McKillip of Wish Upon a Quilt in Raliegh, NC – she’s using Kaffe Fassett fabrics with batiks:

Here’s my friend Carol Britt of Batiks Etc and Sew What Fabrics in Wytheville, VA

She is making her quilt in batiks, of course, but I’m expecting all you Tech fans will appreciate her color choices:

Last night we made these cute travel bags, one of the projects from the new Groovy Girls club, coming soon to QA!

The food has been amazingly incredibly awesome, all catered by a local chef.  Here’s a leftover from breakfast today, an oh-so-delicious calorie-free (I wish!) treat:

It’s taken me most of the day to upload the photos and write this – the internet connection is sporadic and there have been lots of interruptions and other activities.  I sewed a great tote this afternoon, but no photo yet – if I have to go take a picture, upload it, etc., I’ll NEVER finish this.  So, more later.  :-)

Minnesota Road Show – this Saturday!

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010 by Joyce

What is the Minnesota Roadshow? It’s your opportunity to see four different styles from four very different Minnesota desigers. Linda Hohag of Brandywine Design, Terry Atkinson from Atkinson Designs, Debbie Bowles, Maple Island Quilts, and Heather Muldar Peterson from Anka’s Treasures have joined together to send a trunk show along with all the information we need to show you how to do the techniques that make their projects so special!

We have three different time slots to choose from, but each of them offer the same material – demos, examples, and handouts from each of the four designers, presented by two of QA’s teachers, Phoebe Guider and Cheryl Schenck.  You’ll be amazed at how much you’ll learn in less that two hours – while having fun, too!

The sessions are filling up fast, as this is a bargain at only $10!  Follow this link or stop by the shop to sign up today.  Hope to see you Saturday!  :-)

Just a cute story… :-)

Saturday, July 17th, 2010 by Joyce

One of our customers, Mary B., sent us this email about her daughters, and I just had to share – it’s so cute!

So I just walked in on my girls’ pretend play.  They had an elaborate set up going…. When I walked into the room they said “Welcome to Quilting Adventures!”  They introduced themselves – Sam said that she was Miss Chesley and Syd was Ms. Betty.  They asked me if I would like to buy some fabric today…. They had fabric all set out on the sideboard, a “cutting table” set up with kitchen tongs as scissors, and an old keyboard for a register.   They “scanned” my fabric and notions and gave me a bag.  When I went to pay they told me that this was a “free” fabric store!  So funny!

Oh and if you ever need help, Sydney can really fold fabric well!  She would “cut” it, then fold it very carefully for me….

On father’s day, in memory of my father….

Snow – 4.5; QA – 0

Friday, February 5th, 2010 by Joyce

We concede yet another round to the weather.  We’ll be closed again tomorrow, Saturday, February 6.  We hope to reopen Sunday, February 7, at 12 noon.

Stay warm and safe and get some sewing done!

And it continues…..

Friday, February 5th, 2010 by Joyce

Friday morning, February 5 – we are open this morning but likely closing early. HOWEVER, we do not have internet access at the shop (or at my home). Thank goodness for laptops and free internet at Panera! For the most current information, please call the shop at 804-262-0005; the voice mail message will be up-to-date.

You might want to shop early so you have plenty to work on before the *real* snow comes….  ;-)

Just to be sure…

Monday, February 1st, 2010 by Joyce

I thought I should post and let you know that we ARE open for business today (Monday, February 1)!  Well, okay, not quite yet since it’s not even 9AM yet, but we will be.  10-6, our regular Monday hours (did you know we’re now open until 9PM Tuesday through Friday?).

Hope to see you later today!  :-)

Snow Day 2

Sunday, January 31st, 2010 by Joyce

Well, it’s Sunday, January 31, and QA is going to be closed again today.  Most of us live in neighborhoods that haven’t seen a plow yet (my street never sees a plow – I always have to wait for it to melt), which means we can’t get there to open.  I’m assuming that most of you wouldn’t get there to shop, either.

So, hopefully, we’ll open at 10am tomorrow, and in the meantime, stay safe and warm and have a great snow day sewing.  And maybe tak some time browsing the February calendar – we’ve got some great classes coming up!

Custom Sewing and Machine Embroidery?

Sunday, January 17th, 2010 by Joyce

Since we’ve moved to Willow Lawn, we’re getting more requests than ever for referrals to people who do custom sewing, embroidery, monograms, draperies, alterations, etc.  I *know* that some of you must do such things, but we don’t have any kind of list of people to refer folks to.  If you do any of these kinds of things and would be willing to have us give out your name and contact info to people who inquire, please follow this link and send us your info.  Be sure to include the type of work you so, so we don’t send someone to you who wants curtains if all you do is monogramming.  :-)
