Painting

Tuesday, May 31st, 2005 by Phoebe

Rick has been painting on his hours before and after he gets home from work. He had quite a bit left to finish, but my boyfriend Brendan and I helped him out and finished it all up. We still have to paint the trim, and the bathroom, but for the most part, it is done. Here are some pictures of the shop:

This one is from the back (the classroom) all the way to the front of the store.

This one is of part of the classroom. You can see me playing with paint, and out our back door.

Here you can see the rest of the classroom. There is a nice space on the right for all of our tables. Behind the wall on the left is a nice space for our deep sink, and the restroom. It has nice space on top too.

The carpet goes in this Thursday, and after that we can start moving fabric in!

Wool batting?

Question: Should I sell wool batting? Please post a comment or send me an email!

Fabric Everywhere

Friday, May 27th, 2005 by Joyce

Yesterday Phoebe and I spent hours and hours entering fabric into our POS system. We got good at it pretty quickly and managed to enter about 130 bolts of fabric. Now we have it piled everywhere; much of it arrived in boxes that totally fall apart once you cut the straps around them, so we have no way to repack it.

Here’s our love seat in the living room:

Here are some boxes that are being un- or re-packed in the living room; in the background you can see the furniture stacked up to make more room for shop stuff:

This used to be a work table in the dye room. Now we have fabric piled high, with our (empty) cash drawer on top:

Thanks to all of you who tested out the comment function for me yesterday. Your words of encouragement mean a lot to me!

Chaos!

Thursday, May 26th, 2005 by Joyce

This has been my first week away from the former job, just working on shop stuff full time. I had no idea I’d be this busy and still feel so far behind!

But the purpose of this blog is to give you all some idea of what’s going on behind the scenes. Hopefully if I share some of this craziness with you now, you’ll appreciate the shop on opening day even more. :-)

My former dye studio at home has been converted into a computer workroom. I have two desktop computers, connected with a router, as well as a fax/scanner/printer combo, two label printers, a receipt printer, a “pole” (the thing that displays the $$ stuff when you buy something), a cash drawer, and a zillion power strips. All this, plus a bunch of boxes and bags and bolts of fabric everywhere.

The fabric you see in the foreground is part of Karen Combs’ new Geometrix collection by Blank Textiles, awesome stuff.

More later….
