Around the World with Jinny Beyer

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2005 by Joyce

Yesterday I spend a good part of my day off working on the sample of this quilt. Here it is in progress on my design wall at the shop:

I’m really pleased with how it looks so far; the colors just seem to glow. Come in and check it out!

Doll Hair!

Saturday, August 20th, 2005 by Joyce

There’s no way I can take a picture that will do these packets of mohair justice, but trust me – they’re gorgeous. No reason you can’t use this for other kinds of embellishment besides doll hair, too.

Here‘s the website of the company I ordered them from, so you can get an idea of what I’ve got. Awesome stuff!

More fabric, more books

Friday, August 19th, 2005 by Phoebe

The UPS lady brought us many wonderful things this week!!! We also bought new shelves, so we have a place to fit everything.

We’ve gotten in several new batiks, as well as some more rayon batiks, and flannel batiks.

We also just received a pink and green collection. We have a few bolts still on the way, as well as a pattern for the fabrics:

We also have a new rose collection called Petals from the Past. They are very beautiful pink roses with a cream background.

Also new this week are two collections that go very well together: Kashmir and Victoriana. Victoriana has a lot of beautiful flower prints in purples, blues and yellows. Kashmir is reminiscent of our Florentine collection.

Here is a picture of some of the Kashmir:

And one of the Victoriana’s:

And last, but not lest, we have a bunch of new books!

This week we’ve received:

The New Applique Sampler ~By Becky Goldsmith & Linda Jenkins

Angle Play Blocks ~By Margaret J. Miller

Casting Shadows ~Colleen Wise

Sun-Kissed Quilts & Crafts ~By Barbara K. Baker & Jeri Boe

Coloring With Thread ~By Ann Fahl

Florentine and Diamonds and Postcards

Friday, August 5th, 2005 by Joyce

Have I mentioned lately how much I love the Florentine fabric?
And I love the “Quilted Diamonds” by Linda Franz. I have both of her books in the shop; one comes with a DVD hand piecing lesson. So, I needed to make another fabric postcard/thank you card, and this is what I came up with:

More Florentine, More Bonnie Classes!

Tuesday, August 2nd, 2005 by Joyce

I know some of you have heard this story, but I think it’s got a great message! The short version: the first fabric I sold out of in the shop (except black, which doesn’t count), was a Robert Kaufman pattern called Florentine. It was my absolute favorite fabric in here, and I didn’t get ANY! Phoebe had to bully me into letting a customer buy the last of it (which I’d hidden under the table), and at first I was devasated. Since then, I’ve come to realize that it was a sign. All this fabric in here, I had to buy for my Unknown Customers. I took a lot of chances, but selling out of my favorite tells me that I got something right.

We got more of it in today, along with more of the Florentine collection in the holiday colorway, plus some more go-with fabrics. Here’s a few of them on the cutting table:

They’re so much prettier in person; you’ll just have to come in and see! You can see some of the new rustic plaids on the shelf at the end of the cutting table.

PAINTED FACES CLASS: Bonnie called today about her travel arrangements, and I told her that I have eight people on the waiting list for this class. As luck would have it, she’s able to teach another session on Friday. So please, if you didn’t get on the waiting list, now’s your chance to grab a spot!
