Contests

Saturday, January 28th, 2006 by Joyce

For those of you who love challenges, you might be interested in reading up on the Kaufman Quilt Quest. You have until this summer, and we have the Kensington collection that is used for the block challenge. This contest has a category for handbags, too, for all of you who are hooked on making bags! We will have part of this year’s travelling collection on display on the shop in July.

And don’t forget the Hoffman Challenge, too. We have not only the challenge fabric in stock, but also the companioin pieces. And this challenge also has a category for dollmakers! In fact, part of this year’s travelling collection of dolls will be on exhibit in the shop starting May 20.

If you have been in the shop for the past few months, then hopefully you have seen the Art Bra calendar (I think we still have a few left, in case you missed it). Guidelines for 2007 WTWW ArtBra Submissions are on the Way to Women’s Wellness website. The deadline for entries is May 1st.

Show & Tell

Saturday, January 28th, 2006 by Joyce

Many times, our customers will bring in show and tell, things they’ve made from our fabric or patterns. It’s always a treat, but lately there have been a few glitches. Like the customer who brought in the MOST ADORABLE little dress she made for her daughter, and Phoebe wasn’t there to see it. Or the customer who brought in a quilt to show me this week, but I wasn’t there (Wende told me how awesome it was, but I wanted to see it myself!). And the customer who brought in some dolls to show me, and not only was I not there to see them, but she sold them and now I never will see them!

Our solution – customer show and tell on the blog. A while back, Phoebe helped Ellen Armstrong pick out fabric to make a set of placemats and napkins, and when Ellen brought them in, of course Phoebe wasn’t there. So, with Ellen’s permission, here are some pictures I took:

We want to include your show and tell here, too! Please email your digital images to Phoebe at phoebe@quiltingadventures.com and she will post them here. Keep bringing your things to the shop, too, and if we’re not too busy (and have the digital camera there), we’ll take pictures (only with your permission, of course).

Doll Club Meeting Notes – January

Tuesday, January 24th, 2006 by Joyce

The first meeting of the Doll Club was January 11 from 6-8 PM. We had a few doll makers join in the fun on our first official meeting. We spent time turning tiny fingers using the Tiny Turning Tubes sold at Quilting Adventures. We also had a blast showing off our finished dolls while getting to know each other.

For the next meeting, February 8th from 6-8 PM, we plan to spend some time on faces. If you’d like to play too…please bring some flesh tone fabric scraps (if you don’t have any, Joyce sells it) and markers, gel pens, pencils and/or acrylic paints to the meeting. Don’t worry if you do not have all of these things. We can share! If you prefer to work on a stuffed head, by all means bring a few pre-stuffed heads to experiment on. This is just practice and learning from each other.

I look forward to seeing you at the next meeting of our yet un-named doll club!

Where we are

Friday, January 13th, 2006 by Joyce

It has been brought to my attention that sometimes people find our blog but don’t find our webpage, too. And the blog doesn’t have our address and phone number on it. I’m sure there’s a way we can change that, but until our resident geek gets around to it, hopefully this post will help.

We are located in Dumbarton Square Shopping Center at the intersection of Glenside and Staples Mill Roads in the near West End of Richmond (easy access from I-64 and I-95). If you are coming from out of town, here is a map. Or you can use mapquest to find us at 7121 Staples Mill Road, Richmond, 23228. Our phone number is 804-262-0005.

Our hours are Monday 10-6; Tuesday-Friday 10-8; Saturday 10-5; Sunday 1-4.

You can find out lots more about us by visiting our website.
