New Postcard Contest!

Monday, August 28th, 2006 by Joyce

This one’s a little different than the last few we’ve had, so please read carefully.

Virginia Spiegel has a wonderful project called Fiberarts For A Cause. She is currently collecting postcards to be sold at Quilt Festival in Houston this fall. We would like to help her! So here are the rules:

1. Make as many fabric postcards as you like. Must be 4″ x 6″, fiber, mailable. May be horizontal or vertical in orientation. Please review Virginia’s guidelines, here.

2. Hand deliver your postcards to the shop. You may mail them to us inside an envelope, but the point here is that other than signing the back, you leave the back blank for the person who purchases it to write on (if they choose to). Please sign, title and date your postcard, and include a contact email if you wish.

3. Entries must be in the shop by September 22, no exceptions.

4. Voting will take place on September 23 and 24. One vote per person per day.

5. Viewer’s choice will be announced on September 25 and will win a $25 gift card to Quilting Adventures.

6. All cards will be available September 25-28 for a $30 donation check made payable to the American Cancer Society. Any cards remaining on September 29 will be sent to Virginia Spiegel and included in the sale at Houston. Any cards taken prior to being sent to Virginia will still have their maker’s names entered to win one of the prizes she’s offering to contributors.

7. Employees of Quilting Adventures are not eligible to win the viewer’s choice prize but are encouraged to contribute cards anyway.

Karen Eckmeier Classes!!!

Wednesday, August 2nd, 2006 by Phoebe

Karen Eckmeier was here last week, and wow, what an amazing teacher. We didn’t get to many pictures from the classes, but we got pictures of some of Karen’s quilts.

Here are the two pictures we got of her Happy Villages Class.

And here are a couple of her quilts.

We are hoping to have a show of the quilts made or started in her class. Our planned dates are October 1-31.

Charity Project needs volunteer

Tuesday, August 1st, 2006 by Joyce

I received this email the other day; hopefully one (or more!) of you will be interested in taking this over:
“I have been doing a sewing project for charity for 12 years and it is time to move on. I am looking for someone who would be interested in taking over for me. The project is making small, childsafe stuffed bunnies. They have gone out all over the country and the world with church missions teams or missionaries, but there is call for them in other charities also. I have everything the new person would need: bunnies in various stages of construction, fabric, pattern, stuffing, and all other supplies needed. I have written out detailed instructions, & am also willing to take a new person through the construction process. I can be reached by e-mail (click here).”
