Survey and Winners!

Friday, November 30th, 2007 by Joyce

Thanks to all of you who took the time to complete one of our surveys – we really appreciate it!

Tonight we picked the ten winners of 20% off for all of December (although not Fat Quarter Frenzy or other sale items, sorry).  We called everyone tonight (but didn’t reach a few of you).  The winners are:  Mary C., Felecia D., Sandy W., Lesley W.,  Charlotte C., Susanna C., Betty R., Penelope M., Sherry T., and Gloria S.

Again, thank you all for your feedback.  And please, don’t feel like you need to wait for a survey to let us know how we’re doing.  If there’s a particular product you’d like to see more of, or a class you’d like us to offer, please let us know!  You can always email us at info@quiltingadventures.com, too.  :-)

Mark Lipinski – Washington Post article

Thursday, November 29th, 2007 by Joyce

Phoebe and I had our usual fun visit with Mark (editor of Quilter’s Home Magazine) while in Houston for Market.  And now, here he is on the “pages” of the Washington Post – click here to read the article!

New stuff, including some Amy Butler bags!

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007 by Phoebe

We’ve gotten some great new stuff in lately.  To start it off, I’m going to show off the two new bags we have that were designed by Amy Butler. Unfortunately, she just sells the bags, not the patterns, but we do have some of the fabrics she used!

We’ve also received some totes, great for carrying your sewing/knitting/craft projects anywhere. They come in three great colors, blue, green, and brown. I’m not sure if I posted a picture of these before, but some of the colors are new, so you have to see them again!

We also received packets of a new fusible.  It’s called Shades Soft Fuse.  It is probably the best fusible I have ever felt.  I hand quilted through it, with no thimble! It’s very flexible after fusing, comes with paper backing, and comes in two different sized packages.  Here’s a horrible picture of it, so you can recognize it when you come in.  ;-D

Last, but not least, we also received new copies of Quilting Arts, and American Patchwork and Quilting!

Upcoming Sales – Fat Quarter Frenzy!

Sunday, November 25th, 2007 by Joyce

Tuesday and Wednesday, November 27th & 28th, are our monthly finish the bolt days. Buy what’s left on the bolt and get 25% off!

Next Saturday and Sunday, December 1 & 2, is our Fat Quarter Frenzy! We have over 10,000 (yes, ten THOUSAND) fat quarters cut and ready for next weekend! These are our normal fat quarters, not a special group order in just for the sale. Here are our rules:

- 10 fat quarters for $15
- must be purchased in groups of 10
- fewer then 10 are sold at regular price
- we will restock all weekend
- specialty fat quarters (velveteens, silks, etc) are excluded from the sale
- fat quarter bundles are not included in the sale

PLEASE help us reduce the number of fat quarters we have to count for our year-end inventory!  ;-)

Quilter’s Home magazine

Sunday, November 25th, 2007 by Joyce

Oops!  I forgot to mention in my email last week that the latest issue of Quilter’s Home magazine is here, and I know some of you are HUGE Mark fans and make a special trip for the latest issue.  So, I’m telling you here.  ;-)

Also, while I’m on the subject,  those of you who have been reading QHM for a while may remember that their panel of experts voted on the best detergent for cleaning their quilts, and Soak products were the runaway winner!  We have them in stock now; please give them a try!

Pillows!

Friday, November 23rd, 2007 by Joyce

Lately I’ve been having fun making pillow tops.  It’s a great way to play with new fabric without committing to a big project, and I feel like I’m actually accomplishing something!  The only problem is that my couch at home is still in desperate need of pillows; I keep bringing them all in here as shop samples!  ;-)
Here’s one I made yesterday, using the block design from the Modern Thinking pattern from Blue Underground; I used Ricky Tims’ Rhapsodie Coloree fabric:

Here’s a few more pillows – Betty made the one from Amy Butler fabric, I did the others:

New! Imported Japanese Fabrics

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007 by Joyce

Here’s a picture of some new fabrics we just got in.  Phoebe BEGGED me to buy these at Quilt Market, and I told her we’d try a few of them.  They are the latest trend in fabrics for baby’s and children’s items – the cotton lawn weight would be most adorable when smocked!  I love the Alice in Wonderland print myself; it’s a little heavier than the others and would be great as a bag.  All of these fabrics are 100% cotton and would work perfectly when combined with our regular quilt fabrics in your project.  As you might expect, they are more expensive than our regular cottons, but when doing children’s items, a little will go a long way!

Jan S. from Santa Maria, CA, was in Richmond visiting her friend Paula E. this summer when she came to our shop.  She bought a bundle of hummingbird fat quarters and made this awesome feathered star:

January – April classes

Saturday, November 17th, 2007 by Joyce

I’ve just linked up to our website the class calendars for January through April 2008. Here are links to each of the calendars:
January 2008

Febuary 2008

March 2008

April 2008

We are switching over to a new newsletter format and won’t be publishing a big four-months-at-a-time newsletter anymore. I don’t want to ruin the surprise by telling you more than that, but I’m hoping to have the new COLOR newsletters available in the shop on January 1, 2008, during our New Year’s Day celebration. :-)
