Apron “Contest”!

Friday, August 29th, 2008 by Joyce

So, I think I’m finally at a point where I’m ready to announce the rules for my apron “contest.” Notice how I keep putting “contest” in quotes? Well, it’s a little different.

I’m writing instructions for a simple gathered apron that we can include in kits for free, like we do our pillowcase instructions. But like anything else, putting things into words (with just a few pictures) is much harder than a demo. So I need some pattern testers. That’s where you come in.

Today we’re putting together some apron kits. There will be a limited supply, and they’ll all be different. They will include two coordinating fabrics, interfacing, rick rack, and my directions. Here are the “contest” rules:

- You buy the kit for $16.99 (or $13.99 without rickrack). If you are not local, we can send one to you for $5 shipping.
- Make up the apron using my pattern, and then email me or leave written notes for me on suggestions, corrections, things that don’t make sense, etc.
- Send a digital picture of your finished apron to us at info @ quiltingadventures.com (without the spaces, of course). We will publish the image with your name (first name and last initial and link to your website or blog if you desire) on the shop blog. After that first publication, we reserve the right to use your image in future promotions *without* giving you credit.
Do all this by September 20th, 2008, and we will give you a $10 gift card!

Here’s a photo of one of my test aprons:

New blog, new website, etc.

Thursday, August 28th, 2008 by Joyce

Because I like to live dangerously, we’re going to bring the new website and blog online just in time for the holiday weekend.  That means we won’t be posting to the blog for now, until after the new site is online.  So you might have to just come in the shop and see the ADORABLE new samples that Betty made, a great baby jacket and an adorable kid’s jumper from charm squares!  Hopefully the blog will be back up in time for me to announce my “apron” contest that I’d hope to start this weekend (of course I have to finish writing the pattern first).

Anyway, please stay tuned, check back often, hit your refresh button now and then – I hope you’ll like the new site as much as I do.  Including the new on-line storefront!  :-)

Finish the Bolt Days!

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008 by Joyce

The 27th and 28th of EVERY month are our finish the bolt days!  That means if you buy whatever is left on a bolt – even if it’s 10 yards! – you get 25% off the entire piece.

Just in case you’re calendar challenged (like me), that’s Wednesday and Thursday of this week.  I hope.  You might want to look at a calendar to be sure.  ;-)

End of Summer Clearance. Paintstiks, and Apron “contest”

Monday, August 25th, 2008 by Joyce

We may not have any classes on the schedule for Labor Day weekend, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t stuff going on!  :-)

Saturday’s free demo will be hands-on, working with paintstiks!  You might get a little messy, so please don’t wear your Sunday best, but please join us at 11 or 2 to see how much fun and how versatile these are.  And NO, they’re NOT just for art quilters!

Since there are no classes this weekend, I’m going to fill at least one of the classrooms (maybe more) with clearance stuff.  We have too many bolts to be able to handle all our September orders – this is our chance to move them out!  Think about what quilts you might soon need backs for, and come buy best quality fabric for up to 60% off! There will be other specials this weekend, too – selected Electric Quilt products, pillow forms, and more!  Red line fat quarters will be only $1.50 each.  Etc.

Monday is Labor Day, but it’s also September 1, which means our Martingale Buy One Get One Free sale starts (selected titles only).  I would think twice about waiting until Monday to shop, however, because lots of the good clearance stuff will be gone.  The book sale goes on through September 30, and we’ll be restocking all month.

I’ll be announcing details about an apron “contest” later this week, and kits for that will be available this weekend, too.  Stay tuned to this blog for more details, maybe tomorrow!

Needle felted purse class!

Sunday, August 24th, 2008 by Phoebe

Kathleen’s Needle Felted Purse is coming up soon, and we asked her to tell you all about it!

“The Felted Purse class features the Embellisher (needle felting machine).
It is a great way to learn how to use one of these machines to make a
unique, yet practical piece.

Don’t miss this opportunity to make a finished purse in a one day class.
This is a fun class that is easily adapted to make a purse in the size you
prefer. The first time I taught this class no one left with purses that
looked the same. We had purses of all sizes and colors. Some with handles
and some with straps. The finished purse also makes a great gift…something
to consider with the holidays just around the corner.

I hope you will come join me for a fun day of creative needle felting.”

Here’s a link to the class on our website:

NEW Stained Glass Class!

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008 by Joyce

We decided that it was time to offer a new pattern as a stained glass class – this one’s a little less complicated and so it’s only a one day class, which we know is easier for many of you. It’s the Dragonfly Paradise pattern, taught by Laura Blanchard on Saturday, September 20; follow the link for the rest of the class details, and PLEASE don’t wait to sign up – these classes *always* fill!

Nurture nest

Friday, August 22nd, 2008 by Phoebe

We started carrying nurture nests after seeing one that a customer was covering. They’re great for the expectant mother, as they fit around her waist and give her some support while nursing a newborn. Ours come uncovered, so you can pick out any pretty fabric you like. Since my nephew was born on the 1st of August, mom decided that she wanted to make one for my sister-in-law. She bought a nurture nest and some pretty blue minkee to cover it. She also got some of our zipper on a roll so that she could make a custom size zipper to make the cover removable.

Isn’t that a cool idea? It’s quick and easy, but something a new mom can use a lot!

~Phoebe

PS From Joyce – this zipper on a roll stuff is really cool.  You get 10 feet of zipper and 10 pulls.  It’s great if you make garments, because you will always have the right size zipper.  And it’s great for bags where you might need a 7″ and an 11″ or whatever – because again, you’ll always have the right size!  We do also have a few invisible zippers (and the foot to put them in) in stock, because many of you are sewing garments and like me, don’t want to have to go to a different store to get just a zipper.  :-)

Customer Show & Tell

Margaret L. sent us this photo of the quilt she made in Laura’s Stack and Whack class (on the schedule again for October 11 & 25)

Deanna C. took my Easy Reversible Valance class a couple of weeks ago and set me this photo of her sewing room, with the valances she made from a quilt her mother started many years ago – and they look great:
