Upcoming classes and events

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010 by Joyce

I’ve been a blog slacker lately.  My excuse?  Busy planning upcoming events!  I’ll be filling in details on all of these soon, but for now, you may want to mark your calendars for any or all of these:

March 20 – National Quilting Day Celebration

April 16-18 – Trunk Show and Classes with Margo Duke

April 30-May 2 – 30-Hour Quilting Marathon to raise funds for cancer support

May 9 & June 20 (Mothers and Fathers Days) – 1 Million Pillowcase Challenge Sew-ins

May 14-16 – For the Kids! Spring Shelter Event

June 26 – QA’s Fifth Anniversary Celebration

AND, if that isn’t enough, we’re fleshing out the class schedule for April through June.  Some repeated ever-popular classes – like our Learn to Sew classes which have all been full with waiting lists lately, and Stained Glass Butterfly/Dragonfly – and some new classes – classes on Color in Quilting, Fabric Postcards, Zippers, and more!  As we post the newly scheduled classes, they’ll appear on the class page of the website, here, so check back often.

So, what’s going on right now?  All kinds of stuff!  :-)

Tonight is our first Miniatures in Minutes class – it’s not too late to sign up!

Friday evening I’m teaching a Scrap Mania class – even if you don’t want to do our block of the month, this is a great class to learn to make perfect triangles every time!

Sunday afternoon, Catherine is teaching her Sewing Kit Roll-Up – this is a fun project that you can personalize to be perfect just for you!

And then, can you believe it’s March already?  LOTS of great classes coming up in March, too many to list here.  Click on the calendar links to see the description and photos of the project.

Stay tuned to the blog for more news on our upcoming events, too!

Customer Show & Tell

Friday, February 12th, 2010 by MaryT

Rosalie E found this pattern called “Zen” in a magazine. What a gorgeous quilt made from blue and green batiks!

Terrific Bargello quilt from Olivia S:

Virginia M said this was her first portrait quilt!

Jeannine R’s gorgeous batik pinwheels:

Phyllis M finished her 2009 Block of the Month – the Hidden Stars:

The sweetest little pink flowered dress by Gloria S:

Ingrid A’s first quilt from a magazine pattern:

These four quilts were made by Rebekah’s nieces and nephew.  She taught them how to quilt on her visit and did the work by themselves.  Rebekah R did the machine quilting!

We know you’ve been sewing during all these snow days – don’t forget to bring your show and tell to the shop.  We want to see what you’re making!  :-)

New(ish) Fabric!

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010 by Joyce

I took these pictures of our new fabric last week and then forgot to post them.  And now this fabric isn’t the newest anymore, we’ve got probably 75 bolts that are newer!  But here are some of the pretties:

And here’s the new Surface Design Center from C & T – fun in bottles!  :-)

But like I said, there’s lots more new stuff since I took these pictures – come check it all out!  :-)

Snow – 4.5; QA – 0

Friday, February 5th, 2010 by Joyce

We concede yet another round to the weather.  We’ll be closed again tomorrow, Saturday, February 6.  We hope to reopen Sunday, February 7, at 12 noon.

Stay warm and safe and get some sewing done!

And it continues…..

Friday, February 5th, 2010 by Joyce

Friday morning, February 5 – we are open this morning but likely closing early. HOWEVER, we do not have internet access at the shop (or at my home). Thank goodness for laptops and free internet at Panera! For the most current information, please call the shop at 804-262-0005; the voice mail message will be up-to-date.

You might want to shop early so you have plenty to work on before the *real* snow comes….  ;-)

Scrap Mania/Weather Update

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010 by Joyce

Are you tired of getting daily blog updates about this lousy weather and whether QA is open or not?  Well, not as tired as I am of writing them, I promise!  As it stands now, we’re open today, and class is still on for tonight.  If we cancel, it will be no later than two hours before the start of class and we will call everyone.  Sometime today, I’ll be writing QA’s official “Inclement Weather Policy” and will post it on the website.  Fun, fun.  ;-)

So I thought today I’d include something more than just the weather update!  Yesterday was February 1, which means that Scrap Mania is back!  Many of you have admired the wonderful quilt hanging behind the cutting table that I can’t seem to find a picture of anywhere!  It is our Scrap Mania quilt, from our “not” block-of-the-month that took a little vacation while we moved.  There’s no sign-ups, just new kits at the beginning of every month.  And you’ve got to come get them while they last.

Follow this link to see some photos of block layouts and read all about the “program.”

Follow this link to check out the upcoming Scrap Mania/Thangles class.  Thangles make these blocks so incredibly easy – if you can sew a 1/4″ seam you can make this quilt!

When these kits are gone, they’re gone – until next month.  And these would make a great snow day project!

Just to be sure…

Monday, February 1st, 2010 by Joyce

I thought I should post and let you know that we ARE open for business today (Monday, February 1)!  Well, okay, not quite yet since it’s not even 9AM yet, but we will be.  10-6, our regular Monday hours (did you know we’re now open until 9PM Tuesday through Friday?).

Hope to see you later today!  :-)
