BRING TO CLASS WITH YOU:
*Book: Strips 'n Curves by Louisa L. Smith
*
Basic Template Set (Templates are designed to accompany the book, Strips 'n Curves.)
*Sewing machine
*¼" piecing foot
*50 wt. cotton sewing thread to match fabrics
*2 or 3 filled bobbins
*Medium size rotary cutter (45 mm) [It is difficult to cut curves with the large (60 mm) rotary cutter.]
*Medium size cutting mat
*6" x 24" Omnigrid-type ruler
*fine silk pins without round heads
*seam ripper
*scissors
*40" x 48" batting to be used as a design wall in class and later for layering the quilt
*Optional: small iron and ironing surface
*Fabric Requirements: Before purchasing fabrics, read the tips on choosing fabrics on pages 12 - 20 in the book. Also read pages 75 - 77 to get acquainted with the project we will be working on in class.
*1 ½ yds. of a focus fabric - a multicolored print
*¼ yd. each of 17 (or more - up to 24) different fabrics that coordinate with but more importantly, contrast with your focus fabric, ranging from light to dark to light or from dark to light to dark. Before purchasing fabrics, arrange them in the order in which you want to sew them together. The first fabric and the last fabric should flow into each other. I will explain why this will be helpful in class.
*1 ½ yds. for backing and sleeve (not needed for class)

PREPARATION FOR CLASS:
a. Press all fabrics using spray sizing.
b. Cut each of the 17 quarter yards into four 1½" strips. Cutting must be accurate.
c. Place each set of strips into the order that you would like them to be sewn together and we will evaluate them in class. (Sewing will be done in class.)
d. Do not cut the focus fabric.
