Stargazer Stitchery Tome Series

Dates:

Page 1 - Saturday, January 19, 2008, 10-5

Description: This series of classes will stir your creativity! A tome is a book, in this case made of cloth and various other fun supplies. Each pattern (page) will use different techniques and supplies. These pages are a fun way to experiment with techniques and learn how to use supplies you have always wanted to try. Some of these include: free motion embroidery; painting fabric using many different techniques including water color pencils, acrylic paint, metallic paint, dyes, colored pencils, markers/gel pens; distressing tyvek and cellophane; fabric/fiber collage; applique; stamping; beading; photo transfers.

Pre-class work required for all half day classes.

Instructor: Kathleen Chrisman

Class fee: $24 each (arca class $36)

Kit fee: Patterns required. Optional kits may be available for some months/pages.

Level: Intermediate

Supply List:
Basic sewing kit
Paper cutting scissors
Paint brush

Fabrics and supplies listed on pattern back

Tome page #1 is also the front and back cover of our fabric book (Tome). It features Applique. The front page is done using applique methods to apply three lovely ladies to the cover.

The back cover uses painted tyvek and free motion embroidery.

Page 2 features Photo transfers and Windows. The front of this page uses fabric windows to frame your photo transfers. Free motion embroidery is used to enhance the windows.

The back of this page features a pin doll and a photo framed with ribbon.

The back of this page features a pin doll and a photo framed with ribbon.

Page 3 features Fiber Collage. The front page uses water color pencils to color the lovely lady. She is then surrounded by flowers cut from fabrics and attached to the page.

The back of this page is a lot of fun and experimenting with new things. Tyvek, cellophane, tulle and free motion embroidery all combined on one page to create a unique collage scene.

Page 4 features Painting and Stamping. The front of the page is a beautiful painted mermaid. Fish stamps and bead accents add texture to the finished page.

The back of this page features a collage of many fibers, and snippets of laces. It is free motion embroidered and then painted. Yarns are then applied to form a tree as the main design. The page is painted to enhance the design. This can also be done using an Embellisher machine in place of the free motion embroidery...what fun!

Page 5 features Beading...one of my favorite things! The front of this page is a painted, full figured woman (or you can pain another picture if you prefer). Once the paint is dry (painting must be done before class) beads are attached using several different beading stitches. Including sculptural peyote and bead embroidery.

The back of this page uses a printed fabric as you bead guide. You apply beads using bead embroidery stitches following you chosen fabric's design. A photo transfer is also applied to the page and beaded around.

Page 6 features Velvet. UTEE (Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel) is applied to the page and stamped with figure designes on the front of the page. The pocket is made by burning synthetic velvet with a soldering tool.

The back of the page features foiling techniques around photographs.

Page 7 features Needlelace. The front of the page is done using hand Needlelace techniques with fancy threads and fibers and shi sha mirrors.

The back of this page features machine Needlelace.

Page 8 features machine and Hand Embroidery. The front of the page is done using fancy threads to machine embroider the design in place and add machine made flowers.

The back of this page features hand embroidery and ribbon embroidery techniques.

Page 9 features Tyvek, Cellophane and Organza. The front of the page is done by distressing tyvek with an iron and adding lots of fibers and organza bits. Tyvek flowers are made and applied.

The back of this page is made using organza and cellophane. Both are distressed and added in layers over a photograph. organza flowers add the final touch.

This is one of the quicker pages and it's a lot of fun to do!
