Intro to Machine Sewing

Introduction to Machine Sewing
2 sessions, 2-3 hours each
This two-session class is an introduction to sewing and using sewing machines and is intended for those who want to learn to sew. The first session will focus on sewing terminology and using your machine for simple sewing tasks. In the second session, participants will learn sewing techniques to make a pillow case (with no exposed seams).
Materials list:
all supplies are available at QA for a 10% discount to students
Sewing machine in good working order, with a new needle, size 70 or 80
Spool of good quality sewing thread (suggested color: white or beige)
Sewing scissors (dedicated for sewing projects)
Sewing pins
Optional: Rotary cutter and self-healing cutting mat (18” x 24”)
For the second session, participants can purchase a Pillowcase Kit at Quilting Adventures, which includes pre-cut fabric for one pillowcase. In lieu of a pillowcase kit, participants will need:
- 3/4 yard of good quality 100% cotton fabric for the body of the pillowcase
- 1/3 yard coordinating fabric for pillowcase cuff
- 2.5 inch strip for the accent piece
The instructor will contact each participant before the class to get more details about your sewing experience.
