Make a Holland Pouch
Meet The Holland Pouch by Center Street Quilts! The Holland Pouch pattern will be your go-to quilted pouch pattern because it is simple and fast: something that even a beginner can feel confident making. There is no bias binding, inside edges are finished and only straight line sewing (no curved seams).
The Holland Pouch pattern has three size options, each of which only uses three fat quarters of fabric. We will be making the Large size in class. We will walk you through every step of creating your pouch, plus extra instructions for using directional fabric. For directional fabric, you will need two pieces 17" x 11".
PREP WORK BEFORE CLASS: Cut all of the pieces for the Large Pouch as directed under "Cutting Instructions". Prepare the Quilted Panel as directed under "Sewing Instructions".
Supplies needed
- The Holland Pouch pattern
- Walking Foot for your sewing machine to go over several layers of fabric and interfacing
- Sewing machine with manual
- Scissors, rotary cutter, ruler
- We have cutting mats available in the classroom
- Jeans needle 100/16 for sewing through layers.
- Topstitch needle 90/14 for quilting
- Coordinating thread
- Fabric safe marking tool
- Pins
- Clover clips or small binder clips
FABRICS, INTERFACINGS AND ZIPPER:
- 20” or longer (or Zippers by the Yard) #4.5 YKK handbag zipper preferred over a regular zipper as they are easier to work with when you’re making a bag.
- 3 fat quarters – one for pouch exterior, one for the lining and one for the accent.
- 18” x 21” double sided fusible Pellon foam interfacing (recommended for best results). This is an alternative to basting with pins or basting spray.
- Pellon foam comes in 20” width so you will need 5/8 of a yard.
- 10”x10” piece of one-sided fusible interfacing Pellon SF101 (Shape Flex)
