Beginning Quilt Making

Supply List:

Please note: This class requires basic knowledge of how to use a sewing machine. You must be able to sew a straight(ish) line and completely thread your machine on your own.

 *All supplies are available at Quilting Adventures (except machine feet); 10% off supplies once enrolled in class.

Fabric and batting (Note: fabric requirements are generous to allow for some errors in cutting):

* Dark fabric(s) - 4 fat quarters or 1 yard

* Light/background fabric – 4 fat quarters or 1 yard

* Outer border – 7/8 yard

* Binding - 1/2 yard

* Backing – 1 2/3 yard (not needed until third class)

Please no directional prints!

* Batting: 1 1/3 yards Quilters Dream Select 100% cotton batting from the bolt or a package of crib sized batting.

* Pattern: Maggie Pearl from Penelope Handmade

Tools:

* Rotary Cutter

* 18 x 24 mat or larger

* 8 1/2" x 24" rotary cutting ruler. If you already have a 6" x 24" ruler, bring that and a second ruler that is at least 6" x 6" (doesn't have to be square)

* Sewing machine in good working order (if you have not had your sewing machine serviced within the past year, please do so before class)

* Sewing machine manual & accessories

* 1/4 inch sewing machine foot

* Sharps (Microtex) needles size 70

* Piecing thread – 50 wt, 100% cotton in a neutral color

* Sewing supplies: Seam ripper, scissors, pins, flexible tape measure

* Pencil and paper for notes

These items are needed for the third class:

* Safety pins - approximately 200, size 1

* Quilting needles size 75/11

* Walking foot

* Quilting thread – 50 wt, 100% cotton (we will choose your colour during class)

* Blue Painter's tape or masking tape ½-1” wide

 *Pre-class work: Please wash and press all fabrics before class (but do not wash the batting!).

Class Polices:

If your class starts at the same time that we open, we will let you into the shop ten minutes before class time.

In consideration of other students and employees with allergies, please limit your use of scented personal products when attending one of our classes. 

If your class calls for a book or pattern, each student needs their own copy of that book or pattern.  Under federal copyright law, books and patterns may not be shared.

If your class requires a sewing machine, please be sure that you are familiar with its operation, it is in good working order, has been serviced recently, and bring your manual along to class just in case.

We do not allow children under the age of 18 in our classes without the consent of the teacher and shop owner.
Pets are not allowed.
Only the person who is enrolled and paid for the class may be in the classroom during class time.  Out of the consideration for the teacher and the other students, please do not bring children, guests, or friends to class with you.

No refunds if you cancel the within 7 days of the class.
