I’m trying to take a short vacation. So, this week and maybe next week’s newsletters may be pretty short. :0)
Let’s talk color. How do you pick your colors for your quilts? Do you start with a print that you love and add fabrics that enhance the print? Do you just scrap it, string it, crumb it (many are doing this now while home with their stash)? Do you use the color wheel to pick out your colors?
You say, “The color wheel? I remember learning about that in elementary school. I need a refresher!” I have found you some videos for that! Karen Brown from Just Get it Done Quilts has done three short videos on colour. You can access these from her blog at https://www.justgetitdonequilts.com/post/how-to-colour-your-quilt After these, she has a couple more or so about using your favorite color and how to make a quilt in a different color than what is on the pattern cover.
Art Gallery Fabrics is doing a color series too. Theirs is based on their designers’ blocks. The first one does talk about the color wheel – primary, secondary, and tertiary colors. You can get to it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Izn5_ujh2ao
Now you are ready to start that quilt for your family for Christmas. Come see what we have that is fresh, basic and/or blenders, and a fun pattern. We are getting all of Coco by Michael Miller, a new blender. The first shipment just arrived. Our blenders are stocked and you can mix them with our solids, batiks, and collection prints. Solids are coming in all the time, a few at a time. There are lots to choose from. We even have a color wheel up for your to reference.
We look forward to seeing you and letting us help you play with color,
Phyllis and the QA Staff
