National Quilting Month and Mid-Atlantic Quiltfest

National Quilting Month and Mid-Atlantic Quiltfest

It’s National Quilting Month. So let’s look at quilts and classes about quilting.

I didn’t get to see a lot of the show, but what I saw was inspiring.  Some were from the national competitions, some were from local challenges. All were beautiful. There were traditional, modern, applique, portraits, humorous, and colorful. And these were only a few of what was there.

I’ve placed them in an album on our Facebook page. You can view them any time there.

So many of you took classes. Our own Myriah and Linda did a class on different techniques – trapunto, bobbin work, thread painting and embellishment and one on free motion quilting. Those of you who also took classes, please send us a picture of your started projects. We love to share.

Now what about classes and ideas for you at home. C & T Publishing had a great newletter for this month. They also have Creative Spark (similar to Craftsy) for taking classes. Check out your favorite fabric companies, designers, and national sewing/quilt guilds for classes and short how-to videos. Plus there’s always YouTube.

Are you aware of all the guilds in Richmond you can join for learning, like-minded sewists, and informational meetings. Meeting are being held via Zoom and in-person (as the pandemic calms down). There is the Richmond Quilter’s Guild (they have neighborthood groups too), the Central Virginia Modern Quilt Guild (CVAMQG), Richmond Modern Quilt Guild, Virginia Consortium of Quilters (VCQ), and the American Sewing Guild Richmond Chapter (they have specialty sewing groups). Plus there are groups for cross stitch, knitting, crocheting, and a Richmond Makers Group.

In the shop there is our Finish Your PHD (projects half done). We have had many come in and email pictures of their finished February projects. Still want to join us? Send us a list of 7 or more projects you would like to finish by the end of August. Show us at least one each month. This month, March 26 at 2:30pm, we will be getting together to show what has been accomplished so far. Join us for some local creative spark!

For the remainder of National Quilting Month (March) and National Quilting Day (March 19th) – get 15% of any one item of your choice when you show us some of your completed quilts. The real thing or a picture on your phone.

New in the store – Island Batiks, patterns

Plus there's more and some more on the way.

Hope to see you soon.

Enjoy the lovely weather today!

Happy sewing everyone,

Phyllis and the QA staff
