Last real newsletter talked about patterns that pre-dated our crafts that are now English Paper Piecing Patterns. This week we will look at Portuguese and Spanish tile, buildings, floors, mosques, cathedrals, and more that gave us quilt patterns. Many of the designs are Moorish in origin, since the Moors and Muslims were in this part of the world at least 7 centuries before the Christians began settling there. There are 9 patches, squares set on point, sashing with cornerstones, flying geese, half-square triangles, medallions, snowballs, geometric shapes, and more below. Enjoy the tour.
Floors and walkways

Walls (Mostly Portugal)

Ceilings

Tiles on the outside of buildings (These are from Portugal, except for the last one. That is a chapel on the waterfront in Malaga.)

Next week I'll share some of my favorite places and pictures that are non-quilting related!
Happy sewing everyone,
Phyllis and the QA staff
