Calculating Continuous Bias

Calculating Continuous Bias

Hello, quilters!

We are often asked how much fabric you’ll need to make the continuous bias strip for your project. Here’s a handy formula that will teach you how.

Here’s a cheat sheet, too. Find the column for how wide you want your bias to be, then go down until you find the size of your square of fabric, and the measurement on the left will tell you how many inches of bias you’ll end up with.

Also, take a look at this free tutorial for a pie pin cushion, linked below!

https://beeinmybonnetco.blogspot.com/2018/01/cutie-pie-pincushion-tutorial.html

The tutorial shows you how to make the top of the pie using eight different 3.5” squares to create four unique half square triangles. If you don’t mind half of your slices looking the same and want to make the most of your fabric, four 3.5” squares will do just fine.

The pie gets finished with a solid colored bottom for the crust and attached to a 5” pie tin.

Happy sewing everyone,

Phyllis and the QA staff
