It's Fall Y'all
If you're like me, you're fighting the perennial battle of leaves on your driveway, but the colors are magificent! I am also the weirdo who loves brown, so I love fall colors. In the vein of a pretty, fall project, why not consider Then Came June's Star Adventure quilt? Paired with Ruby Star fabrics and a pretty gingham, this stunner is sure to satisfy when you need a quick and easy project that looks amazing. A big shout out to our employee, Jen, for making this sample. Come in and see it in person!
New Fabric Alert!
Babies seem to be everywhere lately and we aren't complaining. They are adorable, soft and smell wonderful kind of like wet grass after a rain storm. These new fabrics from Whatever the Weather by Moda are perfec to invoke those sweet, lazy days when we can hang out inside, read books and snuggle babies. Stop in and see these pretty prints in person or get a jump on a spring project!
Classes
We are rolling along with classes. We've added more collage, more rope bowl, a few math classes and a micro beginning quilt class. What is a micro beginning quilt class? Glad you asked! It's a class where you won't make a whole quilt, but you will make a quilted table runner that will hit all the skill highlights you need to go forth and make your own quilt.
So here's what's poppin at QA:
November The Brightly Sew Along and the Beginning Quilting class are continuing.
November 11--Kawandi. Learn how to create a Kawandi quilt. This is a fun project for hand sewing and using up scraps of fabric.
November 18--Begining to Sew II--Hot Pads and Bowl Cozies. These fun projects are quick and easy. Create items for your own home, color coordinated to your style, or use these skills to make Christmas gifts.
November 19, 26 and Dec.3--Beginning Quilting, make a tablerunner (free tuition to college students and HS students). by the end of the class, you'll have a completed table runner to show off for the holidays. Be on the lookout for a pic (as soon as I complete the class sample) on FB and Instagram!
November 24--Free Friday Sit and Sew. If you've stuffed yourself full of turkey, you can come and take a load off with your friends here at QA! You must sign up for the Free Friday Sit and Sew!
December 1--Collage with Heather. This class is smoking hot! We keep adding session and you all keep taking them, so I'm up for it! Bring your Laura Heine collage quilt pattern along with a smattering of fun background and foreground fabrics and let's play!
December 1--Rope and Trivet Bowl Class. Julie is teaching just about everyone in the metro RVA area about rope, ropebowls and making really cool things with rope and a machine. Come learn the basics of making a trivet and ropbowl with the Rope Queen!
December 2--Double Strips. Sometime ago, I learned how to use the Strip Tube Ruler. It was fun, but I was frustrated that I could only do one strip set at a time. I designed Double Strips to make my work a bit more efficient. So come take this class with a jelly roll filled with bright and wonderful fabrics (or not if you don't like bright colors!) and we're sure to have a good time putting this quilt together.
December 7--Baltimore Album with Sue. Ongoing class using traditional applique techniques.
December 7--Kawandi. Another opportunity to learn the hand sewing art of Kawandi!
December 9--Quilt Math. When I heard on a podcast that in order to incite anxiety in their subject, a team of researchers had them do MATH IN PUBLIC, I though I must really be a glutton for punishment. Alas, it's true, I'll do math in public for y'all. We'll discuss how to find yardage for: backing, binding, sashing and borders. Bring you paper and pencil and a calculator on your phone!
December 29--Free Friday Sit and Sew
We are planning for our classes for next year! If you have a skill you want to learn or a pattern you want to be a quilt along, shoot us a mail at info@quiltingadventures.com
Until next time,
Heather, Julie, and the QA Staff
